I love collecting old bits of stuff – cast-off tools, useless pieces of hardware, anything with type or numbers on it, old wood…. I like the imagined history of the objects, the quality materials and craftsmanship, the oddity of certain things. When inspiration hits, I reassemble things in a new way to make objects people can use again. I love the process, it gives me real joy. And it gives me an excuse for collecting things. If I didn’t make art with the things I collect, I might be considered a hoarder.
I grew up on a farm in North Dakota, where I learned to appreciate hard work, old tools, and the beauty of simple things. I have a BFA with a focus in Graphic Design, and live in Seattle with my husband, 2 daughters and one angry cat.
